“Jeopardy!” Host Alex Trebek to Headline 34th Annual Chamber Dinner

Program will also feature a debate between the 2018 General Election gubernatorial nominees, ‘Allegheny College Prize for Civility in Public Life in Pennsylvania’ presentation

HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry is pleased to announce that Alex Trebek, one of television’s most enduring and iconic figures, will serve as the keynote speaker at the 34th Annual Chamber Dinner.  Best known as the host of JEOPARDY!, Trebek has hosted the popular quiz show since it debuted in 1984 – with more than 7,500 episodes under his belt; he currently holds the Guinness Book of World RecordsTM record for the “Most Game Show Episodes Hosted by the Same Presenter.”   Over the course of his career, Trebek has been honored with five Daytime Emmy awards for Outstanding Game Show Host, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.  Trebek will offer a captivating look at his unprecedented 34-year career as the face and voice of America’s Favorite Quiz Show® and will share his personal insight on longevity in business.

Following Trebek’s remarks, the PA Chamber has extended invitations to the 2018 gubernatorial candidates to face off in a 45-minute debate moderated by Trebek.  With a dynamic, entertaining format, the debate will focus on an array of topics that are critical to Pennsylvania businesses. Since 2002, the PA Chamber has featured a debate as part of the Annual Dinner program in each gubernatorial election year.  For the second year, the evening’s program will also feature the Allegheny College Prize for Civility in Public Life in Pennsylvania.  This partnership between the PA Chamber and Allegheny College recognizes two public figures – one liberal and one conservative – who argue passionately but with civility for their beliefs.  This year’s winners will be revealed at the dinner.

“The PA Chamber is excited for what promises to be another outstanding Chamber Dinner program,” said PA Chamber President and CEO Gene Barr.  “Throughout his storied career, Alex Trebek has successfully navigated the ever-evolving television and entertainment landscape – all while encouraging the pursuit of knowledge and understanding the world around us.  His commitment to philanthropy and to promoting civil discourse via the lecture series he sponsors through the University of Ottawa ties in perfectly to the mission behind the Allegheny College Prize for Civility in Public Life in Pennsylvania – which we are honored to once again include in this year’s dinner program.  Trebek’s remarks are sure to resonate with business leaders and elected officials throughout the Commonwealth who constantly deal with changing dynamics in today’s global political and economic stages.  Additionally, his background hosting one of America’s most beloved television quiz shows make him uniquely qualified to moderate what is sure to be a lively and informative gubernatorial debate.”

The dinner will take place on Monday, Oct. 1 at the Hershey Lodge.  Dennis Owens, news anchor for abc27 news, will emcee the event for the 11th consecutive year.
