Wolf Administration Lifts Some Mitigation and Travel Restrictions

In response to a continued decline in COVID-19 cases throughout the Commonwealth and an increase in the number of vaccines distributed, the Wolf administration announced last week the revision and lifting of certain mitigation restrictions that have impacted the state’s business community, as well as the lifting of restrictions on travel.

According to a press release that was issued by the administration, these changes include:

  • Revised maximum occupancy limits for indoor events to allow for 15 percent of maximum occupancy, regardless of venue size. Public health measures including mask wearing, social distancing and hand hygiene must still be in effect – meaning that the expanded occupancy limits can only be permitted if the venue is able to comply with social distancing.
  • Revised maximum occupancy limits for outdoor events to allow for 20 percent of maximum occupancy, regardless of venue size. As above, public health measures must remain in effect, and expanded occupancy limits can only be permitted if the venue is able to comply with social distancing.
  • Elimination of out-of-state travel restrictions. The governor has rescinded travel restrictions that were put in place in November and that required anyone over the age of 11 who visits from another state to provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 test or place themselves in a travel quarantine for 14 days upon entering Pennsylvania.

“Along with these changes, there is caution,” the administration noted in its press release. “Reduced cases, hospitalizations and deaths, and the more than 2.3 million vaccinations are good signs, but the CDC advises that now is not the time to introduce expansive loosening of mitigation efforts known to put people more at risk. New cases of variants continue to appear, and some experts warn of a fourth surge in cases.”

Given these factors, the PA Chamber continues encouraging its members to follow state and CDC-issued health guidelines that have shown to prevent the spread of COVID-19; and to get vaccinated as soon as they are able to and encourage their employees, friends and families to do the same.
