HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry President and CEO Gene Barr issued the following statement regarding the Delaware River Basin Commission’s resolution to move forward with regulations banning natural gas development within the DRBC’s territory:
“We are extremely disappointed in the Commission’s decision to move forward with a proposal that, if ultimately adopted as drafted, would ban energy development in the Delaware River Basin, which includes all or parts of sixteen Pennsylvania counties. Pennsylvania already has a set of robust regulations in place – which have allowed for the responsible development of natural gas in the Commonwealth. The use of natural gas has not only helped the state progress towards attaining key air quality requirements, but also has also been a driving factor in Pennsylvania’s economic growth and competitiveness. We are also disappointed that Governor Wolf directed his nominee to vote in support of the resolution, given the governor’s continued demonstrated support for the increased use of natural gas and the build-out of necessary pipeline infrastructure.”
