HARRISBURG – PA Chamber President & CEO Luke Bernstein today issued the following statement in response to the governor’s announced energy plan:
“Pennsylvania has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to become the energy capital of the world and a key hub for both traditional and emerging energy markets—but we need public policy that supports that goal. Right now, rising energy demand is outpacing our ability to bring new power generation online. To ensure reliable, affordable energy, Pennsylvania needs a comprehensive, all-of-the-above strategy that protects and expands job opportunities, drives economic growth and investment, and responsibly balances environmental considerations.
“The governor’s Lightning Plan includes important measures, such as tax incentives and permitting improvements, that can help attract private-sector investment—however, a carbon tax would undermine these efforts by discouraging reliable energy production, eliminating jobs, and driving up costs for families and businesses. We urge the governor to work collaboratively with stakeholders and the legislature to develop a balanced, forward-looking energy plan that positions Pennsylvania for long-term success.”
