HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry President and CEO Gene Barr issued the following statement regarding Gov. Tom Wolf’s veto of S.B. 562, legislation that would have increased legislative oversight of the regulatory rulemaking process and allowed for greater public comment and input on government regulation decisions:
“We are disappointed the governor chose to veto this important regulatory reform bill. Pennsylvania’s overly burdensome regulatory environment is already a detriment to the state’s overall business climate. This reform would have enhanced the General Assembly’s role in the regulatory review process – allowing for additional time to review proposed regulations and gather public input to better determine if they are consistent with the legislative intent of the law the regulation seeks to impact. This legislation would have been a positive step towards ensuring Pennsylvania’s regulatory environment does not put undue burdens on Pennsylvania’s job creators. If we want to truly improve the Commonwealth’s economic climate, we need to reduce government red-tape and other barriers to growth.”
