PA Chamber Hosts Indian Consul General for Economic Discussion

The PA Chamber recently welcomed Indian Consul General Binaya Srikanta Pradhan and other representatives from the Consulate General of India in New York for a discussion on the robust partnership between Pennsylvania and the Republic of India.

During the event, Consul General Pradhan outlined India’s ambitious goals for economic growth. Pradhan discussed India’s aim to achieve developed nation status by 2047 and shared projections showing India is expected to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2030. Pradhan also outlined India’s key areas of focus with respect to the United States, which include trade, technology, tourism, and talent exchange.

Highlighting the substantial economic ties between the two nations, Consul General Pradhan identified America as India’s largest trade partner and noted that a significant portion of US-Indian trade is concentrated in the northeastern United States.

Additionally, Consul General Pradhan revealed that the US contributes approximately 10-12 percent of India’s $83 billion in foreign direct investment, which benefits several regions across the country.

The Consul General underscored the importance of the Indian Consulate’s partnership with the PA Chamber in facilitating connections between Pennsylvania businesses interested in investing in India and vice versa. Indian companies currently have 64 locations in Pennsylvania which support 1,790 total jobs. Moreover, India ranks 17th for the total number of firms and 27th for the total number of jobs in the Commonwealth.
