2018 Annual Human Resources Conference—considered the premier event in Pennsylvania for human resources education and training, the PA Chamber’s Annual HR Conference is the one place where HR professionals can get the most up-to-date information on the timeliest topics from top national and Pennsylvania experts:  not only advice and strategies on handling the hottest issues that require attention today, but what companies should be doing to prepare for what is coming in 2019.

Through comprehensive professional development programs for every level of experience, speakers provide tangible, practical steps and best practices that HR professionals can immediately apply to ensure their companies are doing the right things and to help make their difficult jobs a little easier.

Opening KeynoteThe Five Leading National Indicators Facing Today’s HR Professionals

It doesn’t get better than this:  Peter Robb, General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board; Glenn Spencer, the U.S. Chamber’s Senior Vice President of the Employment Policy Division; and Jonathan Segal, nationally recognized employment attorney and Partner at Duane Morris, present the keynote for our event.  They will discuss the five leading national topics of importance facing human resources professionals from the National Labor Relations Board.  Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the NLRB is the U.S. government agency responsible for investigating and enforcing U.S. labor law in relation to unfair labor practices and collective bargaining.

Closing Keynote: The Rising Surge of Discrimination Claims with Strategies to Protect Your Company

Back by popular demand, Jonathan Segal, Partner, Duane Morris LLP, along with Kathryn Brown, Associate, Duane Morris LLP, will present the closing keynote on the rising surge of discrimination claims, including harassment.  Both nationally and in Pennsylvania, harassment and discrimination claims are way up, and companies must ensure they are limiting exposure and have taken the right steps when there’s a claim. We will discuss what companies should do—and should have done—to prevent bad supervisor/employee behaviors that lead to discrimination cases; the biggest mistakes companies make with discrimination claims; and best practices companies should follow to prevent these types of claims.

New For This Conference!

  • People Analytics—a huge national trend, people analytics or HR analytics applies statistics, technology and expertise to large sets of data to help managers and executives make decisions about their employees or workforce resulting in better management and business decisions for an organization and smarter, more strategic and more informed talent decisions.
  • Understanding the Intersection of Workers’ Comp, the FMLA and the ADA—while we have covered each of these complex laws on their own, this is the first time we are discussing how all three intersect and what companies must do to comply when an employee is injured on the job.
  • Maximizing Your Re-entry Programs for Military Veterans and Older Workers—we will look closely at working with two groups who have great reputations for very strong work ethics, presented by a veteran from national SHRM.
  • Disaster Planning for HR: the Active Shooter, and Fleet/Transportation Security—how to plan for and deal with workplace violence, with an emphasis on the active shooter, as well as protecting your fleet and transportation workers, presented by a leading national company and a U.S. Department of Homeland Security top officer.

Critical Updates We’re Covering

  • Employee Handbook Do’s and Don’ts—the mandatory policies all employee handbooks should include; the optional policies you may want to include; electronic systems policies, and strategies you should consider as to the scope, nature and tone of your employee handbook.
  • Electronic Communications and Your Employees— so many pitfalls with the whole electronic and social media movement: off-duty conduct, personal devices at work, employees working and checking email 24/7, as well as privacy rules will all be reviewed and discussed.
  • The latest, inside information on the hottest employee issues that will impact how you do business in the coming year.
