UC/WC Summit: Understanding Unemployment Compensation Benefits and Workers' Compensation Benefits—Pennsylvania's Unemployment Compensation and Workers' Compensation programs are two of the larger costs facing most companies, and each law has numerous benefits, forms, claims filing procedures and other requirements that HR professionals and benefits specialists must stay on top of and comply with.

Covering both programs in one morning, our speakers—current and former UC and WC department officials of special note—bring their knowledge and vast experience to offer the latest information, answer your questions and help you improve program management, eliminate mistakes and potentially save your company money:

  • Donna M. Griffin, Employment Security Specialist 2, Office of UC Benefits, Policy, PA Dept. Labor & Industry
  • Beth L. Mummert, Employment Security Specialist 3, Office of UC Benefits Policy, PA Dept. of Labor & Industry
  • Anne Carmody, former Manager, Compliance Department, Bureau of Workers' Compensation
  • Stephen J. Fireoved, Partner, The Chartwell Law Offices, LLP; and former Director, Bureau of Workers' Compensation
  • Debra Novakovich, former Division Chief, Health Care Services Review Division, Bureau of Workers' Compensation
  • Gina Signore, former Division Chief, Claims Management Services, Bureau of Workers' Compensation

They will cover:

  • UC Benefits, Relief from Charges and Separation Eligibility—all aspects of how and when UC benefits apply; who is eligible to receive benefits; requirements for new hires; separation fact-finding issues; how to determine relief from charges; dealing with discharge vs. voluntary quit; what to do in different situations such as employee health issues, voluntary layoffs and employees leaving for personal reasons.
  • Willful Misconduct Charges Under UC—when to apply UC benefits, if at all, in situations such as absenteeism and tardiness, drug and alcohol abuse, insubordination and profanity, damage to equipment, violation of business rules, dishonesty and more.
