Last week, the Senate voted to approve three nominations to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, the agency charged with balancing the needs of consumers and utilities and ensuring that safe and reliable utility services are provided at reasonable rates, among other decisions regarding public utilities that are in the public interest.
The day after the Senate’s approvals, the PUC swore in the new commissioners and issued a press release in which it announced the return of Commissioner John Coleman, who was sworn in for a third term, and the arrival of Commissioners Stephen DeFrank and Kathryn Zerfuss. All three commissioners were appointed by Gov. Tom Wolf, and with their swearing-in, the PUC has returned to its full five-member complement.
In the release, Commission Chairman Gladys Brown Dutrieulle said she was looking forward to Commissioner Coleman’s return and the new members of the commission, adding that, “Pennsylvania continues to face a diverse list of utility issues, and their voices, insights and backgrounds will be vital as the PUC moves forward.”
