Polling Shows Likely Voters in PA Solidly Oppose Biden-Harris Gas-Car Ban and Consider Issue “Important” for 2024

New polling conducted in Pennsylvania on behalf of the PA Chamber and American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) shows that among likely voters, the United States is on the wrong track and there is strong opposition to government policies designed to ban new gas-powered vehicles. Further, a supermajority of likely voters says that this policy issue will be important to them when deciding which elected officials to support in 2024.

The polling — fielded in Pennsylvania between June 29 – July 1 — was conducted by Remington Research Group and measured likely voter sentiment around the direction of the country, issue importance, gas-car bans, and support for candidates who embrace such policies. Highlights of the polls are as follows:

 

Pennsylvanians believe the United States is headed in the wrong direction.

  • 59 percent wrong track, 33 percent right track, 8 percent not sure

On a generic Congressional ballot, Republicans lead Democrats in Pennsylvania.

  • 49 percent Republican, 47 percent Democrat, 4 percent undecided

The majority of likely voters in Pennsylvania oppose gas-car bans.

  • 60 percent oppose, 20 percent support, 21 percent undecided

A supermajority in Pennsylvania reports that a candidate’s position on stopping bans on new gas cars is an important factor in their vote.

  • 69 percent important, 14 percent not important

PA Chamber President and CEO Luke Bernstein issued the following statement on the new polling:

“This new polling shows a discouraging trend of Pennsylvanians believing that America is on the wrong track,” Bernstein said. “From a business community perspective, these concerns are no doubt exacerbated by burdensome regulations and unpopular policies emanating from Washington. Our national leaders should stand up for consumers and end harmful regulations like the EPA’s gas car ban and others that are detrimental to economic growth.”

Methodology:
Survey conducted June 29 through July 1, 2024. 673 likely 2024 General Election voters participated in the survey. Survey weighted to match expected turnout demographics for the 2024 General Election. The margin of Error is +/- 4 percent with a 95 percent level of confidence. Totals do not always equal 100 percent due to rounding.
