In case you missed it… two of the PA Chamber’s policy experts recently testified before House and Senate committees on proposals related to higher education and local tax reform in Pennsylvania.

Last Monday, PA Chamber Manager of Government Affairs Aaron Riggleman testified before the Senate Education Committee on the “Grow PA” higher education plan. In his testimony, Riggleman emphasized the critical role of colleges and universities in Pennsylvania’s economic landscape and stressed the importance of forward-thinking initiatives that help attract students to in-demand fields and align higher education with industry needs.

Separately, PA Chamber Director of Government Affairs Neal Lesher testified before the House Local Government Committee on House Bill 678, which would establish a process for counties to enact an additional one percent sales tax.

Lesher cautioned lawmakers against the negative consequences of such an increase, including its impact on businesses, consumers, and economic growth. He stressed the importance of comprehensive local tax reform to promote a competitive business climate and urged policymakers to explore other solutions that prioritize economic stability and job creation.
