The Future of Energy is in PA, and the PA Chamber is Leading the Way

PA Chamber President and CEO Luke Bernstein joined President Joe Biden in Philadelphia earlier this month for an announcement that is blazing a trail for Pennsylvania and the nation’s energy future – funding for two new “hydrogen hub” projects in the Commonwealth.

The winning projects – MACH 2 in southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Delaware; and ARCH 2 in western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia – will develop hydrogen as a low-carbon fuel for industrial power generation and transportation markets. The projects are expected to bring thousands of good-paying jobs, clean energy, and a healthier environment to the communities across the region.

Bernstein issued a statement that spoke to the Commonwealth’s rich energy history and the PA Chamber’s excitement that the Commonwealth is playing a major role in yet another revolutionary energy project.

“Pennsylvania is a global energy leader that is home to abundant natural resources, industry thought leaders, and cutting-edge innovators,” Bernstein said. “We have led every major energy transition in our nation’s history and the PA Chamber is excited for Pennsylvania to help lead this historic initiative as well.”

While the Marcellus Shale has made the Pennsylvania-based hydrogen hubs possible, one widely supported hub also based in western Pennsylvania, known as the DNA H2Hub, was not funded. The PA Chamber is hopeful that this project could receive support in the future, as its application was extraordinarily competitive.

“We applaud those Pennsylvania companies and partners who worked so hard to facilitate this historic opportunity that will create jobs, protect our environment, and benefit our Commonwealth, the nation, and the world,” Bernstein added.

Carbon capture and hydrogen hubs are major buzz words in the energy and environmental world today, and you can learn more about them – and the future of the MACH 2 and ARCH 2 projects – at the PA Chamber’s 2023 Annual Environmental Conference! Join us in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, November 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the University Club at the University of Pittsburgh.

The information-packed agenda includes a morning panel discussion on carbon capture technology and Pennsylvania’s hydrogen hub future. An afternoon keynote presentation from American Chemistry Council President and CEO Chris Jahn will focus on chemistry’s role in driving sustainability. More  engaging conversations will take place about the future of American energy and environmental sustainability during this information-packed day you won’t want to miss.
