Last week, the House Judiciary Committee advanced two bills that would create a two-year window for survivors of child sexual abuse to file lawsuits in cases where the statute of limitations has passed.

The committee voted 14-7 to pass both H.B. 1 and an amended version of S.B. 1, both of which would put a single constitutional amendment before statewide voters at the next eligible election. Both bills now await further action by the full House.

In an appearance at the PA Press Club last week, Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman, R-Indiana, said the House should pass his chamber’s version of S.B. 1 which would put three questions before voters – one on the two-year lawsuit window, another on voter ID requirements and the third giving the General Assembly more regulatory authority.
